Opening Statement

The overarching theme of our course is “Reading as a Writer.”  Literally, the theme means that we, as readers, have to try to read as if we are the authors.  “Read” does not simply refer to “reading aloud” as if elementary students would do.  In a college level, “read” is a much more sophisticated skill.  Through the reading process, we pay attention to the form (including organization, paragraphs, and sentence craft) or framework of a piece of work, and the writer’s arguments towards a certain topic.  In other words, to college students, “reading” is similar to “examining” a text in various perspectives.   The critical reading skills of us, college students, can be gradually developed, since we learnt the techniques and tried to pay attention to every single detail of the texts we have been touched upon throughout the course.  I hope these knowledge can lead me to a greater success in the future college writing and reading.
